S T A T U S

Rufus has recently begun taking on more corporate responsibility within the Shinra Company. Despite his father's cruel and capricious oversight of his actions, Rufus has been given the reigns of Junon, Shinra's Second City - with the designs of creating a far more well-oiled machine than the urban dystopia of Midgar.

D E T A I L S

APPEARANCE

Rufus is a handsome young man with short blond hair and cold, blue eyes. Careful with how he presents himself, Rufus is fond of outwardly wearing pristine white - as a means of standing out and setting himself 'above' darker intentions. He wears a similar outfit in all his appearances: a white business suit with a matching jacket over a black shirt. His jacket is folded over akin to a trench coat, and he wears a tie, with a dark gray dress shirt. He wears hakama-styled pants; the pant legs have a fitted interior and a baggy exterior that skirts over with buttons down the front pleat. Belts drape around his wrists and waist akin to himo straps and overall suspenders, and several hang loosely over his long skirt. Rufus favors layered whites and blacks - he likes to give off the impression of outward purity, keeping his intentions beneath.

PERSONALITY

Rufus is an enigmatic schemer; by virtue of his deep distrust for his father or anyone around him, Rufus has a plan at all times for any eventuality, and as such is an excellent negotiator and improviser. Aloof, superior and often rather petulant, he has a merciless streak and clearly has no qualms with killing his enemies - though will always choose a non-lethal path where he can if he believes it will benefit him better. Rufus believes himself owed and deserving of the lofty position he has been born into - but also believes firmly in the responsibility such a position carries, and shows traits of truly caring for those beneath his care.

Rufus is, despite his subterfuge, often ruthlessly honest - critical and blunt with subordinates who displease him, but also known to appreciate openly good work from the Turks or members of the Shinra Public Security Forces.

Rufus deeply detests his father - due to his father's constant refusal to praise or acknowledge Rufus' hard work, his constant biting criticism about everything he does, and his father's perceived 'antiquated' way of running things. Rufus detests that his father outwardly denies Shinra's role as the stewards of the World despite the truth being plain, and hates that the President will buy his way through life and waste company assets on vanity projects for himself or his staff, rather than seize control more firmly and securely.

Rufus acts fearless even in the face of formidable opponents, always having backup should things go wrong. He is actually at heart a more moral person than he would ever let on. Despises his father’s subterfuge and genuinely wants to be a ‘better’ version of himself and treats his subordinates well. Mostly . He has pride, arrogance and superiority in abundance. Rufus also has a mean, ruthless streak when crossed or angry and does not easily accept criticism. His father is a constant critic and he has no choice but to accept it - but from anyone else that criticism is not in any way accepted.

Outsmarting others. Being in control of a given situation - albeit only when that control has been won rather than being granted. Privacy, and the ability to speak frankly. Honest people, hard workers. Likes reading and reclining at the Junon beach in the evening. Genuinely quite enjoys going out with the Turks from time to time.

DISLIKES

Losing the upper hand. Losing control of himself or having his pride and image threatened by unfortunate circumstances. Irrelevance. Loss of information or control. Being surrounded by angry people - a recurring nightmare he does not admit.

S K I L L S

Rufus demands control of a battlefield, using his weaponry and his allies to keep pressure on frequently. He is more than proficient enough to match his Turks in single combat. Rufus prefers to let his opponents come to him - that way he can control the field of battle by responding to their advance.

Rufus has fantastic business acumen. Subterfuge and sabotage puts him at Turk level. An expert shot, capable of training a dangerous Guard Hound variant named Darkstar to fight with him in perfect sync. Trained in a type of gun-kata.

WEAPONS

Polestar

A special weapon made specifically for his uses, Polestar is made up of two parts - a powerful revolver, and an amplifying second 'frame' that slots into the former to become a large, dangerous shotgun. The Polestar is loaded with special mako-fused shells. When impacting against Rufus' special coins, they super-charge the coins into a railgun-like ricochet.

FAMILY

• President Shinra - Father - A complex and cruel man, Rufus is the apple of President Shinra’s eye - but purely because he sees him as a growing worthy successor to his own ruthless Empire. Rufus himself despises nearly everything about his father, despite the very useful lessons he’s learned from his father’s behavior. Rufus believes he is the only man who can stop his father from burning Shinra’s legacy to the ground pursuing the impossible.
• Lazard Deusericus, Evan Townshend - Half-Brothers - Several half-siblings he has tried his best not to acknowledge. Whilst they may share a father, none of them captured his father’s attention like Rufus has, so he believes they share little to nothing in the way of shared experience.

FRIENDS

• Almost none. Rufus is an intensely private man who lets very few people close to him. However, some people have crept close to the line.
• Darkstar - A one-of-a-kind military canine bred and developed for him by R&D, Darkstar is a truly frightening creature, Rufus’ most loyal bodyguard, and a combatant he can sync with perfectly to throw off any would-be attackers… More importantly , however, Darkstar is Rufus’ friend. Whilst the canine has seemingly had almost any kind of docile temperament scientifically removed, Rufus nonetheless has managed to elicit some pet-like reactions out of his ‘guard dog’ in defiance of modern science, and he is actually rather fond of the creature.
• Amber - A rather fascinating person who is yet another figure of Project Chimera who has come to his attention , Amber connected with Rufus due to her seeming understanding of his own situation that was parallel with his own. Someone who he expected would see him as a monster, but perhaps can see through who to his real ‘self’ - and wants to be seen the same way.

ACQUAINTANCES

• Tseng - A shrewd man who , much like Rufus, hides genuine morality between a facade of corporate composure. Though Tseng is at the behest of his father, Rufus knows that when the chips are down, Tseng is someone he can depend on.

• Gabriel Lycanthyr
• Jade Lycanthyr - His former ‘pet’, Jade was bought for him from an auction by his father against his wishes. Wanting nothing left than a snivelling toadie who he saw as being there to report back to his Father and also to remind him that loyalty could be made as well as won, he initially regarded Jade with distrust and outright hostility, and did not treat her particularly well. Despite this - or perhaps because of it, Jade grew into a shrewd and intelligent figure of her very own, earning Rufus’ begrudging respect. It has only been much later that they have to some degree reconciled, and the sad thing is that Jade is one of the few people who know Rufus enough to be aware of his ‘human’ side.

ENEMIES

• President Shinra, and the Board of Directors - The decadence of the board of directors and their amoral, apractical application of their considerable power and wealth drives Rufus into deepening hatred - especially as both Heidegger and Scarlet seem inept to his eyes and utterly obsessed with their own egoes over the Company’s will.

Rufus Shinra has a complicated relationship with his father, the President of the Shinra Corporation - compounded by the death of his mother, and it is implied that Rufus was old enough to have memories and feelings about her. Rufus also resembles his mother and is described as having softer features. His father used Rufus's birthday as the security passcode for all of his devices, despite the fact the President was often absent for Rufus as a child and would often push , shout at and chide his son even at the age of five. Constantly seeking the affection of his father, years of abuse and neglect eventually hardened Rufus' heart - and drew his mind instead to his inevitable role within the company and his means of setting right what he saw as wrong.
